PROTEASE INHIBITORS

Agenerase (amprenavir) in combination with other antiretroviral agents is indicated for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. This indication is based on analyses of plasma HIV RNA levels and CD4 cell counts in controlled studies of up to 24 weeks in duration. At present, there are no results from controlled trials evaluating long-term suppression of HIV RNA or disease progression with Agenerase.

Aptiom®

Aptiom® (eslicarbazepine acetate) is a prescription medicine to treat partial-onset seizures in patients 4 years of age and older.

Crixivan®

Crixivan® (indinavir sulfate) is an inhibitor of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) protease. Crixivan capsules are formulated as a sulfate salt and are available for oral administration in strengths of 200 and 400 mg of indinavir (corresponding to 250 and 500 mg indinavir sulfate, respectively). Each capsule also contains the inactive ingredients anhydrous lactose and magnesium stearate. The capsule shell has the following inactive ingredients and dyes: gelatin and titanium dioxide.

Invirase

Invirase is a prescription HIV-1 (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) medicine used with ritonavir and other antiretroviral medicines to treat HIV-1 in people over 16 years of age.

Kaletra

Kaletra is a prescription medicine that is used with other antiviral medicines to treat human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) infection in adults and children 14 days of age and older. HIV is the virus that causes AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome). It is not known if Kaletra is safe and effective in children under 14 days old.

Lexiva

Lexiva is an HIV protease inhibitor indicated in combination with other antiretroviral agents for the treatment of HIV-1 infection.

Norvir®

Norvir® (ritonavir) tablets and oral solution are prescription medicines each used with other antiviral medicines to treat people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) infection. Norvir® (ritonavir) oral powder is a prescription medicine that is used with other antiviral medicines to treat children with HIV-1 infection.

Reyataz®

Reyataz is a prescription HIV-1 (Human Immunodeficiency Virus-type 1) medicine that is used with other antiretroviral medicines to treat HIV-1 infection in adults and children 3 months of age and older and who weigh at least 11 pounds (5 kg).

Valcyte®

Valcyte® (valganciclovir hydrochloride) tablets are an antiviral prescription medication given to patients who have a high chance of developing cytomegalovirus (CMV) disease after receiving a heart, kidney, or kidney-pancreas transplant. Valcyte helps prevent CMV disease in these patients.

Viracept®

Viracept® (nelfinavir mesylate) is an inhibitor of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) protease. Viracept tablets are available for oral administration as a light blue, capsule-shaped tablet with a clear film coating in 250 mg strength (as nelfinavir free base) and as a white oval tablet with a clear film coating in 625 mg strength (as nelfinavir free base).

Combivir

NRTI

Combivir can cause serious, life-threatening side effects. These include a buildup of lactic acid in the blood (lactic acidosis), liverproblems, muscle weakness (myopathy), and blood disorders such as a very low number of red blood cells (severe anemia) or lower than normal number of white blood cells (neutropenia).

Crixivan®

Emtriva

Emtriva is not approved for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, and the safety and efficacy of Emtriva have not been established in patients coinfected with HBV and HIV-1. Severe acute exacerbations of hepatitis B have been reported in patients who have discontinued Emtriva.

Epivir

Lamivudine can cause serious, life-threatening side effects. These include buildup of lactic acid in the blood (lactic acidosis), severe liver problems, and inflammation of the pancreas(pancreatitis) in children at risk for pancreatitis.

Epzicom

Epzicom can cause serious, life-threatening side effects. These include allergic reactions, buildup of lactic acid in the blood (lactic acidosis), and liver problems.

Retrovir

Retrovir is a nucleoside analogue reverse transcriptase inhibitor indicated for treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) infection in combination with other antiretroviral agents. Also prevention of maternal-fetal HIV-1 transmission.

Trizivir

Trizivir can cause serious, life-threatening side effects. These include allergic reactions, lactic acidosis (a buildup of lactic acidin the blood), liver problems, muscle weakness (myopathy), and blood disorders such as severe anemia (extremely reduced numbers of red blood cells) or neutropenia (reduced numbers of white blood cells).

Truvada

Truvada for PrEP™ (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is a prescription medicine that can help reduce the risk of getting HIV-1 when taken every day and used together with safer sex practices.

Videx EC

Didanosine can cause serious, life-threatening side effects. These include swelling of the pancreas (pancreatitis), a buildup of lactic acid in the blood (lactic acidosis), and liver problems.

Viread

Viread (tenofovir disoproxil fumarate), a medicine used to treat chronic hepatitis B in people 12 years of age and older. Viread will not cure HBV. Viread may help lower the amount of hepatitis B virus in your body by lowering the ability of the virus to multiply. Viread may improve the condition of your liver. The long-term effects of taking Viread for treatment of chronic hepatitis B infection are not known. It is also not known if Viread is safe and effective for treatment of chronic hepatitis B in children under the age of 12 years.

Zerit®

Zerit® is the brand name for stavudine (d4T), a synthetic thymidine nucleoside analogue, active against the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

Ziagen

Ziagen can cause serious, life-threatening side effects. These include a serious allergic reaction, a buildup of lactic acid in the blood (lactic acidosis), and liver problems.

NNRTI

Prezista®

Prezista® (darunavir) is a prescription medicine. It is one treatment option in the class of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) medicines known as protease inhibitors. Prezista® is always taken with and at the same time as ritonavir (Norvir®), in combination with other HIV medicines for the treatment of HIV infection in adults. Prezista® should also be taken with food.

Rescriptor

Rescriptor tablets contain delavirdine mesylate, a synthetic non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) of the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1).

Sustiva

Sustiva is a prescription medicine used with other antiretroviral medicines to help treat HIV-1 infection in adults and children 3 months or older and who weigh at least 7 lbs 12 oz (3.5 kg).

Viramune

Viramune XR is an NNRTI indicated for combination antiretroviral treatment of HIV-1 infection in adults.

ENTRY INHIBITORS

Fuzeon

Fuzeon is a medicine called an HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) fusion inhibitor. Fuzeonis always used with other anti-HIV medicines to treat adults and children ages 6 - 16 years with HIV infection. Fuzeon blocks HIV's ability to infect healthy CD4 cells. When used with other anti-HIV medicines, Fuzeon can reduce the amount of HIV in the blood and increase the number of CD4 cells. This may keep your immune system healthy, so it can help fight infection.

Selzentry

Selzentry is indicated in combination with other antiretroviral agents for the treatment of only CCR5-tropic human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection in patients 2 years of age and older weighing at least 10 kg.

MULTI-CLASS COMBINATIONS

Atripla®

Atripla® is a prescription medication that can be used alone as a complete regimen, or in combination with other anti-HIV-1medicines, to treat HIV-1 in patients who weigh at least 40 kg (88 lbs).

Odefsey®

Odefsey® is a prescription medicine used to treat HIV-1 in people 12 years and older.

Isentress

Isentress is a prescription HIV medicine used with other antiretroviral medicines to treat human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) infection in people 4 weeks of age and older. HIV is the virus that causes AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome).
